Children and Young People

Losing a child is a parent’s worst nightmare and the grief that can be felt can be overwhelming.  You will be offered lots of love and support that will be significant in helping you through this incredibly difficult time.

It seems unfair when children and young people die, and it is with great sadness that I offer ceremonies for the young, which I know is not easy for any parent.  A ceremony can help you and your family and friends be united in grief and sorrow and it may help you to express your love for your child through tears but know that there will come a day that you should start to heal.

It is important to remember that how long a child has lived does not determine the size of your loss or depth of your grief.

Mark Twain said

“Nothing that grieves us can be called little,
By the eternal laws of proportion
A childs loss of a doll
And a King’s loss of a crown
Are events of the same size”

I do not charge for funerals for children under 16 years old.

If your child was under 18 years old, please contact the Government if you need financial support. It can help with burial fees, cremation fees and coffin, shroud or casket fees.

Please also consider contacting some of the organisations below for help and support.

Children and Grief

Telling a child that someone has died is an incredibly difficult thing to do. It can feel daunting and words may not come easy as you worry how to explain what has happened in a gentle and sensitive way, especially if the death has been traumatic.

Being honest can really help.

You will worry that you may scare them but they appreciate you being open, as their imagination may picture worse.

There is a lot of support out there. Please speak to your local hospice, GP or reach out to some of the charities below for support.
